How it works
Counts update as you type. Reading time assumes 238 words per minute and speaking time 150 words per minute, typical adult averages.
The most frequent words list ignores common short words (the, and, of …), which helps spot repetition in an essay or keyword stuffing in web copy.
Questions
- How are words counted?
- Any run of letters or digits, including apostrophes and hyphens inside words, counts as one word. "Don't" and "well-known" are one word each.
- Do characters include spaces?
- Both numbers are shown: with spaces and without.
