Sanctions Screening API

Screen a person or company name against the U.S. Treasury OFAC SDN and Consolidated sanctions lists (about 20,000 entries and 21,000 aliases), with fuzzy matching and a score for every possible match. Lists: OFAC Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) and the OFAC Consolidated (non-SDN) list, with all aliases. Public domain, downloaded from the U.S. Treasury and refreshed every 6 hours. Matching: names are normalised (case, accents, punctuation, word order) and scored with Jaro-Winkler similarity plus word-level agreement. Hyphenation and spacing variants are handled. Each match shows whether it hit the primary name or an alias, the sanctions programmes and the remarks field (dates of birth, nationality, passport and registration numbers). This is a screening aid. A match is a possible match for a trained person to review; no match is not a guarantee. UN, EU and UK lists are not included yet.
